Tourdion 02:16
When I drink claret (Bordeaux) wine My friend, everything turns, turns, turns, turns... Now, I also drink Anjou or Arbois. Let's sing and drink: Let's declare war on that wine flask! Let's sing and drink My friends; let's drink, then! From that fatty ham Let's (all) eat to forget our sorrows! From that fatty ham My friends, let's eat, then! Let's sing and drink: Long life to love and the bottle! Let's sing and drink My friends; let's drink, then!

Oxford 01:43
Shepherds, rejoice! lift up your eyes, And send your fears away: News from the region of the skies — A Savior’s born today! Jesus, the God whom angels fear, Comes down to dwell with you... Today He makes His entrance here, But not as monarchs do. No gold nor purple swaddling bands, Nor royal shining things, A manger for His cradle stands, And holds the King of kings. Go, shepherds, where the infant lies, And see His humble throne, With tears of joy in all your eyes, Go shepherds, kiss the Son.

O were I like a feathered dove And innocence had wings I’d fly and make a long remove From all these restless things Let me to some wild desert go And find a peaceful home Where storms of malice never blow Temptations never come Vain hopes and vain inventions all To ‘scape the rage of hell!
The mighty God on whom I call Can save me here as well By morning light I’ll seek his face At noon repeat my cry The night shall hear me ask His grace Nor will he long deny God shall preserve my soul from fear Or shield me when afraid Ten thousand angels must appear If He command their aid I cast my burdens on the Lord The Lord sustains them all My courage rests upon his word That saints shall never fall Isaac Watts

«Io mi son giovinetta, e rido e canto alla stagion novella», cantava la mia dolce pastorella, quando subitamente a quel canto il cor mio cantò, quasi augellin vago e ridente: «Son giovinetto anch’io, e rido e canto alla gentil e bella primavera d’Amore che ne’ begli occhi tuoi fiorisce». Ed ella: «Fuggi, se saggio sei (disse) l’ardore, fuggi, ch’in questi rai primavera per te non sarà mai». “I am a young girl, and I laugh and sing to the new season.” Thus sang my lovely shepherdess, When my heart suddenly Spread its wings like a bird, All lightness and laughter, It sang in this way: “I am also a young man, And I rejoice and sing to the more beautiful Spring of Love That blossoms in her eyes”, and she said: “Fly if you are wise, the passion In the beams of this Spring will never be for you!”

Dragana sat in her garden under a rose bush, embroidering and singing. A nightingale perched above her and said,‘Keep singing, Dragana. If you can outsing me, cut off my wings. If I win, I’ll cut off your hair.’ But Dragana sang even more beautifully than the nightingale. The bird pleaded, ‘I have young chicks in my nest. Don’t chop off my wings, chop off my legs instead.’ Dragana replied, ‘Nightingale, I don’t need to chop off anything. It is prize enough to have outsung you.’ credits

U poju se mala (x3) Narančica vije Nit' od vitraj, mala (x3) Nit' od sunca žarka Već divojka, mala (x3) Od velika jada Što je mati mala (x3) Za udovca daje In the meadow is, little, an orange tree swaying. Neither from the wind, little, nor from the scorching sun. But it is a maiden, little, (swaying) from the great sorrow. Because her mother, little, is giving her to a widower.

Hush! 03:35
Hush! Golden Gate Quartet Soon, one morning Death comes a creeping in the room Crying O my lord, What shall I do? (Now brother won't you) Hush, hush! Somebody's calling my name! Crying O my lord, What shall I do? (Now you may) Call, for your mother But your mother Can't do you no good Crying O my lord, What shall I do?

I have seen what man can do When the evil lives inside of you Many are the weak and the strong are few But with the water we'll start anew Won't you take me down to the levee Take me down to the stream Take me down to the water We're gonna wash our souls clean Take me down to the river Take me down to the lake Yes, we'll all go together We're gonna do it for the good Lord's sake I have fallen so many times For the Devil's sweet, cunning lies This old world has brought me pain But, there's hope for me again Won't you take me down to the levee Take me down to the stream Take me down to the water We're gonna wash our souls clean Take me…

Paradise 03:22
I know that my Redeemer lives, I have a home in glory, What comfort this sweet sentence gives, I have a home in glory, O glory, O glory, There's room enough in Paradise, To have a home in glory. Come on my partners in distress, We have a home in glory, My comrades through the wilderness, We have a home in glory

about

Culomba (which means “Dove” in the Corsican language) celebrates the diverse and universal human experience of singing. Inspired by rigorous study and personal experience with many different singing traditions, Sophie Michaux, Adam Simon, Lysander Jaffe, Sora Harris-Vincent, and Avery Sherman came together to bring this music to new audiences. We each draw on our own musical passions and expertise, with repertoire spanning American folk traditions, music of Georgia, Corsica, the Balkans, and South Africa, early music, and original compositions. Feathered Dove, our first album as a quintet, takes its name from Adam’s original song featured on this album.
